Portrait Photography Tips

Here's some information to help you make the most of your portrait photography session in Sydney, including information about locations, what clothes to wear, make up and hair  and even the weather.

Portrait Photography Locations: 

First of all work out what sort of location you would like for your portrait photography in Sydney session, it maybe at your place, a beach you like, rocks, parkland, farmyard type shots or bushland.
Things to consider are the ages of children, and how much travel is involved, they get tired quickly on long trips. If you decide on beach portraits don't forget children will get covered in sand, maybe take some towels .

If you can't think of a location we can usually suggest somewhere that may be what you are looking for. 

Also consider if you would like a theme portrait and discuss this with theSydney portrait Photographer.

What time of year:

It doesn't really matter when you decide to have portraits done we can still get great portrait photography, of course weather can affect the style of photos you have taken.

Every season has it style, in winter beaches are empty and you can wear great looking hats and scarfs,  in autumn you get all the beautiful colors and tones.

What Clothing:

With portrait photography clothing can make or break a portrait, its extremely important to avoid anything with patterns or prints that will standout because all you see in the final portrait is the bright patterns or prints, this is why in a lot of portraits people wear pastels or white tops and blue jeans or earthy cargo pants.

For children bring a few different outfits with a few bright colors and some of their favorite things (toys, hats etc.,). Everyone needs to feel comfortable in what they are wearing because it shows in portrait photography.

The Portrait Photography Session:

The session usually takes about an hour or so depending on how many people or how many groups are involved. An hour is usually plenty of time for portrait photos and by then children are sick of photos and have had enough. Don't forget a change of top for the little ones and a drink and a snack.

We want you to enjoy the experience and have fun,don't tell the children to smile all the time as it usually causes the opposite reaction. We want to get portraits that are natural and unposed as they are so much better. If the child is sick or in a bad mood please reschedule we don't mind as its much better for your portrait photography Sydney session.

Baby portraits are either done in our studio or at your home where its easier to look after them. We have somewhere for you to change them or feed them if you need to, as well as temperature control for lousy weather.

Prices: 

A booking fee is required to hold the time for you at a location of your choice, prices depend on where and what you require and includes a 13x18cm desk portrait of your choice.

After your session we will invite to come back to the studio for your purchasing appointment and to view your portrait photography which can take a couple of hours, we supply coffee and jaffa's. At this appointment we show all the portraits taken so you can eliminate any you don't like.

Because this is so important because you will have these portraits for a long long time we suggest that you don't have any children with you.

These appointment can be nightime or during the day if you have flexi times.

As a guide families spend roughly between $400 to $2000 on anything from albums, framed prints,coffee table books, DVD's everyones needs are different. You only order what you want .

All photos are available in colour, black & White or sepia and color tones. We want to WOW you. If you have something special you have seen and want to try just ask us, don't let those precious times disappear
